Traditional Sports in China

Chinese traditional sports and activities are very popular. Many

traditional sports not only are good for
your health but also have high artistic

value, such as martial arts, Taijiquan
and dragon boat racing.

Dragon boat racing is a part of

Chinese cultural heritage (遗产). It is
done in memory of the patriotic (爱

国的) poet, Qu Yuan. It has been practised for over 2,000 years.

During the Dragon-boat Festival (Duanwu Festival, on the 5th day of
the 5th month according to the Chinese lunar calendar), the dragon

boat racing is held. People decorate the boats to make them look

like dragons. The players try their best to move forward for fun and
happiness.
