Xu Zhenchao
Xu Zhenchao was born into a poor working-class family in
1950. He became a worker at 18. In 1984, he was selected as a
bridge crane driver in the first group at Qingdao
Port.
Later, the company sent him to learn how
to drive in Shanghai, but many introductions
and drawings were in English. He could not
understand, so he bought an English-Chinese
dictionary. He copied English words in a
notebook and took it wherever he went. He often read the words
repeatedly in his free time. Three months later, he learned how to
operate a bridge crane and understood drawings. Then he returned
to Qingdao Port.
As a bridge crane driver, he practised his driving skills very hard
and always worked until midnight. Finally, he had a bridge crane
under his control.
Xu Zhenchao has won many awards and honours for his great
success.
